In March 1972, the Oklahoma legislature established a branch campus of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa, covering the last two years of clinical work. As the Tulsa Medical College developed and grew, Hoyt Smith, a medical illustrator, was hired in 1977. Smith founded the Medical Graphics Department and did a wide variety of work including medical art for publications and posters, graphics for slide lectures, design of promotional materials, newsletters, and 3D model making and prosthetics.
