 Sub-Series — Multiple Containers
Identifier: CAC_PP_20173_1.1
Scope and Contents The American Speakership subseries contains research materials related to The American Speakership: The Office in Historical Perspective (The Johns Hopkins University Press, 1990). The American Speakership traces the historical evolution of the speakership and this broad range of research is reflected in the source materials. The materials include sources related to colonial assemblies and the establishment of Congress as well as information regarding the 97th Congress and Ronald Reagan’s economic plan. Various data driven studies, like a veto override study from 1971-1976, secondary sources, and copies of primary sources, are intermixed with Peters’ notes, drafts of chapters, and bibliographic citations. Of particular note are the interview requests and notes of the interviews Peters conducted with former Speakers, staffers, and congressmen.
