Consisting of memos, telephone logs, and photographs, this series includes materials related to Jones’ work as a special assistant in the administration of President Lyndon B. Johnson. His work in the White House began in 1965, when he took a position reporting to Marvin Watson, who served as Johnson’s appointment secretary from 1963 to 1968. In 1968, Jones succeed Watson, becoming the youngest appointment secretary in the history of the White House. The materials in this series, reflect the fundamental work Jones conducted for Johnson, from handling schedules to relaying messages. As a result, the memos, in particular, shed light on the day-to-day operations of the Johnson White House during the pivotal final years of his presidency.
