The Office of Indian Education has restructured its system for handling grants and providing services to grantees. The new system includes two program specialists who will each be responsible for different aspects of the grant process.
Grantees are reminded to submit their final student eligibility counts for the Fiscal Year 1980 grant process, and to screen the 506 forms for completeness and accuracy. The revised 506 forms will not be used for eligibility purposes until the Fiscal Year 1981 grant process.
The deadline for submitting grant applications for the Fiscal Year 1980 grant process is not yet known, but is expected to be in March. Grantees are reminded that they are required to conduct a needs assessment to determine the special educational and culturally related academic needs of Indian children enrolled in their schools.
