The U.S. Department of Education Proposes Transfer of Title IV To The BIA And Major Budget Reduction For Title IV Programs
The National Advisory Council on Indian Education (NACIE) is concerned about the U.S. Department of Education's proposal to transfer the Title IV programs to the Department of the Interior and to reduce the budget for these programs by 34%. NACIE testified before the Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs and requested that the funding level for these programs be maintained at the current level. NACIE also opposes the transfer of these programs to the BIA, and will be monitoring Congressional action on this issue closely.
