The Indian Child Welfare Program
The Indian Child Welfare Program
The Indian Health Care Resource Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma provides a variety of programs for American Indians, including medical and social services, transportation, food and nutrition, mental health, and child welfare. The child welfare program is proposed to be cut by the Administration's budget in 1983, which would eliminate all Urban Indian Child Welfare programs across the board. The Center's Executive Director, Pamela E. Iron, writes to Congressman James R. Jones to request that he look into the matter, as the program has made a large impact on the families served and she feels it is unjust to cut the program without first evaluating its effectiveness.
