The Shawnee City Commission has passed a resolution endorsing two bills that would grant trust status to lands held by the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and the Citizen Band Potawatomi Tribe. The bills are critical to the tribes' ability to pursue industrial development and provide jobs for their members. Congressman James R. Jones is a co-sponsor of the bills and has written to the Shawnee City Commission expressing his support.
