We Delaware People Have Waited Too Long: The Kansas Delawares Must Not Be Allowed to Delay Our Payment Any Further
Item — Box: 32, Folder: 3
Identifier: CAC_CC_109_7_32_3_0004
The undersigned members of the Delaware Tribe of Indians living in the congressional district of James R. Jones understand that a group of non-Delawares calling themselves "Kansas Delawares" are asking Congress to amend the Delaware Judgment Distribution Act of 1972, and are asking for 10% of the Delaware Award funds. The Delaware people have been waiting 7 years for the judgment to be paid out, and 5 years since Congress passed the Act, but the "Kansas Delawares" have been holding up the payment for 4 years with a law suit. The U. S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Delaware Tribe last month, but the payment still has not been made. The Delaware Tribe is urging James R. Jones to do everything in his power to see that the payment is made without any further delays, as many of their elders have already passed away.
