A Group of Non-Delawares is Trying to Delay Our Payment
Item — Box: 32, Folder: 3
Identifier: CAC_CC_109_7_32_3_0015
The undersigned members of the Delaware Tribe of Indians living in the congressional district of James R. Jones understand that a group of non-Delawares calling themselves "Kansas Delawares" are asking Congress to amend the Delaware Judgment Distribution Act of 1972, and are asking for 10% of the Delaware Award funds.
The Delaware people have been waiting 7 years for the judgment to be paid out, and for 5 years since Congress passed the act, but the "Kansas Delawares" have been holding up the process for 4 years with a lawsuit. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Delaware Tribe last month, but the pay-out has still been delayed.
Many Delawares live in James R. Jones' district, and they are urging him to take action to ensure that nothing further delays the distribution of the award funds.
