Establishing Indian Blood
Item — Box: 38, Folder: 14
Identifier: CAC_CC_109_5_38_14_0028
The letter is from Sue Hardage to US Representative James R. Jones, asking for help in establishing her degree of Indian blood. Hardage's ancestors lived in Georgia and Tennessee, and she believes they were affiliated with the Cherokee Tribe of Indians. There are two groups of Cherokee Indians, the Eastern Band of Cherokees located in North Carolina and the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Hardage needs to provide the appropriate officials with documentary evidence showing her relationship to an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma in order to establish her Cherokee Indian ancestry.
