The BIA's Plan for Distributing Potawatomi Judgment Funds, 1978-05-30 - 1978-06-24
Item — Box: 38, Folder: 22
Identifier: CAC_CC_109_5_38_22_0003
The Citizen Band Potawatomi Indians received a judgment in their favor for money taken from them during the 1800's. They have been waiting for the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) to distribute the funds. The BIA has been slow in processing the request and the Potawatomi are getting impatient. They have set aside 30% of the money for land acquisition and development and the remaining 70% for distribution to tribal members on a per capita basis. The BIA is now awaiting the complete record and will proceed with their review as soon as it is available. After studying all pertinent proposals and documents, they will make a recommendation to the Secretary of Interior for a legislative solution.
