Bia Gets Complaint About Impropriety In Creek Election Procedures

Solomon McCombs, a candidate for creek chief, has complained about impropriety in the election procedures. The election is scheduled for august 16, and the treasurer of the tribe is also the postmaster at Morris, oklahoma. McCombs alleges that the absentee ballots for creek voters in and around Morris are being returned to "post office drawer zero" from whence they are under control & supervision of the postmaster/creek treasurer, who delivers them to the election counters. This is seen as an obvious conflict of interest. McCombs has spoken with Scott keep in the solicitors office, who in turn called Robert Treep, a political scientist hired as a consultant by the tribe & its election board to formulate and carry out the election under Bia supervision. Treep says that all absentee ballots are being returned to the Okmulgee post office, not any of the smaller branch offices, where they are picked up daily by two of the election board members and taken
