The Cherokee nation seal, adopted in 1871, features a seven-pointed star in the center surrounded by an oak leaf wreath. This symbolizes the seven ancient clans of the Cherokee people, as well as the trees eternal life. The words "seal of the Cherokee nation" and "Cherokee nation" are written in the native language around the outside of the seal, with the date "September 6, 1839" at the bottom.
