The inter-tribal council of the five civilized tribes represents 65,000 Indian people. The council met in regular session at Seminole, oklahoma on October 12, 1979, and voted unanimously to tentatively oppose the proposed consolidation of the Muskogee and Anadarko area offices. The council requested that the assistant secretary of the interior, Forrest Gerard, meet with the principal officers of all the Indian tribes of oklahoma to fully explain the consolidation plan and the tribes are given the opportunity to express their positions. The council requested that this meeting be held prior to November 12, 1979, at a convenient location.
