"Urgent Request for Support: Protecting Delaware Tribal Recognition and Funding"

 Item — Box: 59, Folder: 15
Identifier: CAC_CC_109_7_59_15_0004
In this letter, Patricia Ann Mason, a member of the Delaware Tribe of Indians, is writing to James R. Jones, a member of the House of Representatives, regarding two concerns. Firstly, Mason strongly requests that Jones votes against House Bill No. 3866, which would allocate Delaware Tribal money to non-Delaware people. Secondly, despite a Supreme Court decision in 1977 recognizing the Delaware Tribe as a federally recognized tribe, the Bureau of Indian Affairs is now disputing this. Mason asks for Jones cooperation in voting for a Delaware Tribal recognition bill that will be introduced in Congress soon. She also requests that a member of Jones staff conducts a preliminary study of the Delaware Tribe.
