 Item — Box: 59, Folder: 14
Identifier: CAC_CC_109_7_59_14_0004
The writer, Teresa Lynn Rust, is a member of the Delaware Tribe of Indians and is writing to the Honorable James R. Jones, a member of the House of Representatives, to express her concerns. She requests that he vote against a bill that would give Delaware Tribal money to non-Delaware people. She also mentions that despite a 1977 Supreme Court decision and acknowledgements from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, there is now a dispute over the recognition of the Delaware Tribe. She asks for support in voting for a Delaware Tribal recognition bill that will be introduced in Congress. Additionally, she requests that a member of his staff conduct an independent preliminary study of the Delaware Tribe, starting with the mentioned Supreme Court decision.
