"Urgent Appeal for Support of Delaware Tribal Recognition and Opposition to House Bill No. 3866"

 Item — Box: 59, Folder: 14
Identifier: CAC_CC_109_7_59_14_0008
The author, a member of the Delaware Tribe of Indians, writes to their representative in the House of Representatives, Mr. James, expressing two concerns. First, they request that Mr. James vote against House Bill No. 3866, which would give Delaware Tribal money to non-Delaware people. Second, they discuss a contradiction between a 1977 Supreme Court decision and the current stance of the Bureau of Indian Affairs regarding the recognition of the Delaware Tribe. They ask for Mr. James support in voting for a Delaware Tribal recognition bill that will be introduced in Congress and request that a member of his staff conduct an independent study on the tribe.
