Urgent Appeal to Congressman Jones: Protect Delaware Tribal Rights and Recognition

 Item — Box: 59, Folder: 14
Identifier: CAC_CC_109_7_59_14_0010
The author, Vircent C. Price, is a member of the Delaware Tribe and is writing to Congressman James R. Jones to express two concerns. Firstly, Price requests that Jones vote against House Bill No. 3866, as it would unfairly allocate Delaware Tribal money to non-Delaware individuals. Secondly, Price highlights the contradiction between a 1977 Supreme Court decision recognizing the Delaware Tribe as a federally recognized tribe and recent statements by the Bureau of Indian Affairs challenging this recognition. Price urges Jones to support a Delaware Tribal recognition bill that will be introduced in Congress and asks for a member of Jones staff to conduct a preliminary study on the Delaware Tribe.
