The Department of Health and Human Services received a grant application from Oklahoma State University to study alcoholism among Native Americans. The application will undergo a review process and a final decision will be made in May 1982. Congressman James R. Jones endorsed the grant application and offered assistance in correcting a budget error. Jones also mentioned that the University of Oklahoma is conducting research on Indian alcoholism and suggested coordination of efforts. Deborah Jones-Saumty, a doctoral student at Oklahoma State University, and Dr. Arthur R. Zeiner are leading the research project and seeking support from government officials. Senator Boren has also pledged support for the project.
