The Department of Housing and Urban Development is working to address the needs of American cities, which are facing growth and decay. HUD is focusing on programs that will improve conditions in blighted areas, provide affordable housing, and create jobs. The Model Cities program is one example of this effort, and it has received $2.5 billion in funding from the federal government.
