The AIO Action Council is a non-profit organization that advocates for Indian affairs and related matters. The organization met recently with representatives from various international unions to discuss their budget needs and legislative activities.

The AIO Action Council is not allowed to receive tax-exempt funds, despite the fact that so much of the lives and needs of American Indians are involved with actions and laws of the federal government.

Organized labor has been very helpful to the AIO Action Council, and the two organizations are natural allies. The AIO Action Council is active on a broad range of legislative issues, most dealing specifically with Indian affairs, but of interest to organized labor because so long as American Indians are at the bottom in every economic and social measurement--employment, income, health, housing, and education--it pulls down the level of the whole economy and is a drag on working people generally and their wages.

The AIO Action Council is requesting a financial contribution from the United Transportation
