America Discovers Indian Art, 1967-01-01 - 1967-12-31

 Item — Box: 283, Folder: 7
Identifier: CAC_CC_026_3_283_7_0032
The text describes a Consortium formed by three universities - Arizona State University, the University of South Dakota, and the University of Utah - in order to provide training and technical assistance services to Indian communities. Through the OEO's Indian Community Action Programs, it was discovered that many American Indians are talented painters and sculptors, but have had no opportunity to develop their abilities. Therefore, the Consortium sponsored regional exhibits in order to search for and recognize these artists. The exhibition of paintings and sculpture by these newly discovered American Indian artists will take place at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, April 2.
