The Inter-Tribal Council of the Five Civilized Tribes sent a resolution to the Secretary of the Interior and the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, requesting that principal officers be continued in office regardless of political affiliation until tribal elections can be held, and that they refrain from using Indian tribes as political pawns. The resolution was adopted on October 10, 1969 at a session held in Oklahoma.
