A Legacy Preserved: Opening of the Centennial Safe at the U.S. Capitol
Speaker Carl Albert opens the Centennial Safe at the U.S. Capitol, which was the vision of Anna Deihm to link the first 100 years of American history with the bicentennial celebration. The safe was first displayed in Philadelphia in 1876 and contains albums with photographs and signatures of important figures from the 44th Congress. Albert reflects on the history of the House of Representatives and the continuity of government over the years. He emphasizes the importance of preserving America's heritage and the contributions of those who have helped shape the country.
