 Item — Box: DP 47, Folder: 61
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_47_61_0001
The Sand Creek Descendants Association is urging the payment of indemnities to the descendants of Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians who suffered in the Sand Creek Massacre in 1864. They are requesting that Congress appropriate funds for these payments as agreed upon in a treaty from 1865. The association has gathered genealogies of descendants and is requesting immediate action on the matter. They have passed a resolution outlining the steps they believe should be taken to fulfill the obligations of the treaty. Congressman Carl Albert has acknowledged the request and stated he will discuss the matter with the Oklahoma Congressional delegation.
