New Industry Boosting Indian Employment Opportunities
The Secretary of the Interior announced that a toy manufacturer, Strombecker Corporation, will be opening a plant in Durant, Oklahoma, providing jobs for 100 Indian men and women. This is part of a larger effort to increase Indian employment, with 40 other plants already providing jobs for 1,500 Indians. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has been working with various organizations to facilitate the establishment of these industries, with training provided to Indian workers. The Durant plant will manufacture model racing cars and other toys, with production set to begin in June.
