Jerry Gilbert, the Oklahoma County Chairman of the Democratic Party, wrote a letter to Congressman Carl Albert recommending John Spaan for the executive officer position in the Indian Health Area Office in Oklahoma City. Gilbert highlighted Spaan's support from the Indian community and his dedication to both his civil service position and involvement in political affairs. Congressman Albert responded, expressing his gratitude for the recommendation and informing Gilbert that he had made recommendations for Spaan's consideration for the position. Congressman Albert also congratulated Gilbert on his election as the Chairman of the Oklahoma County Central Committee.
