Inheritance of Choctaw and Chickasaw Nation Coal Lands Payment, 1949-05-19

 Item — Box: DP 6, Folder: 65
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_6_65_0003
Mrs. G.D. Duncan received a letter from Carl Albert, a congressman from Oklahoma, regarding the payment to members of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations for the sale of their coal lands to the government. Mrs. Duncan inquired about her late husband's share of the payment. Albert explained that the share of a deceased member will be distributed to their heirs, and Mrs. Duncan may be entitled to her husband's share if she is determined to be his legal heir. He also mentioned that living members of the tribes will receive their payments first, followed by the distribution to heirs. Mrs. Duncan was advised to contact the Superintendent of the Five Civilized Tribes Agency in Muskogee, Oklahoma to inquire about her husband's share.
