Ross Swimmer, a banker, was sworn in as the new principal chief of the Cherokee Nation despite protests and allegations of election irregularities. Tulsa attorney Rhoem West, representing a defeated candidate, claimed that Swimmer did not meet the minimum age requirement for chief. West requested a postponement of the swearing-in ceremony and may seek legal action over the alleged irregularities.
