Cherokee Election Controversy: Swimmer Remains Chief, 1975-08-14

A recount of the ballots for chief of the Cherokee tribe showed only a seven-vote difference, with Ross Swimmer remaining the winner. Some competitors filed protests alleging election irregularities and sought relief from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. However, if the election results are not reversed, the candidates may pursue legal action in federal court.
