The letter is from Carl Albert, a member of Congress, in response to a letter from Mr. Amos McIntosh regarding payment for the sale of coal lands by the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations to the government. Albert explains that payments will be made to living enrolled members first, followed by heirs of deceased members. The checks will be mailed out by the Indian office and are expected to be around $300. McIntosh is reminded that as a living enrolled member, he will likely be among the first to receive his payment. McIntosh also expresses concerns about the payment amount and requests clarification on the process.
