The Principal Chief of the Creek Nation is requesting non-tribal funds for separate legal counsel in the Harjo V. Andrus case. The Chief believes there are small conflicts of interest between the Creek Nation's interests and other federal defendants. He also feels that the Interior Solicitor's Office and Department of Justice lack knowledge about the history of the Creek Nation and are not providing adequate legal advice. The Chief believes separate counsel would better represent the interests of the Creek Nation in the lawsuit.
