Response to Request to Reject Creek Distribution Plan, 1978-04-12

 Item — Box: 30, Folder: 29
Identifier: CAC_CC_003_2_30_29_0040
Mr. Allen Harjo wrote a letter requesting the Select Committee on Indian Affairs to reject the Creek distribution plan in Docket 275 or ask the Interior Department to withdraw it because it may allow the Principal Chief to spend the judgment fund without the consent of the Creek National Council. However, Dewey F. Bartlett, in his response, explains that the issue is currently before the United States courts and should be resolved by the tribe, not Congress. Bartlett supports the plan and believes that the issue of the National Council should be resolved quickly so that representative government can return to the Creek Nation.
