Mrs. Cook wrote a letter to Congresswoman Helen Gahagan Douglas asking for help in getting her husband, Pvt. Paul H. Cook, discharged from the Army due to financial hardship. In response, Douglas explained that it is required for the soldier to initiate the discharge process themselves, but suggested that Mrs. Cook ask her husband to discuss the matter with his commanding officer and apply for discharge based on hardship. Douglas expressed hope that their efforts would be successful.
