Captain Thomas P. Stafford, an astronaut born in Oklahoma in 1930, is the son of a dentist and a hotel operator. He is married with two daughters and has a background in the military and aviation. Stafford is a co-author of a handbook for flight testing and has served as an instructor in the Air Force. His hobbies include hunting and he was involved in sports in high school.
