The Senate appropriations committee approved $50 million for construction and planning of dams and reservoirs in Arkansas and Oklahoma, including the Broken Bow reservoir in McCurtain County. Additional funds were allocated for emergency bank stabilization work and other water projects in the region. A delegation from McCurtain County requested the return of funds for the Broken Bow reservoir, and planning was underway for other projects in the area. The bill also included funds for various water projects in the Little River valley, with an emphasis on the importance of adequate appropriations for development in response to population growth.
