Scientists have predicted what the earth will look like from 100 miles above based on the perspective of astronauts. They believe that the most prominent feature will be cloud cover during the day, while at night the earth will appear as a dark object against a star background. The astronauts may be able to distinguish large cities by artificial light, and using magnification, they may be able to recognize terrestrial features such as coastlines, lakes, mountain ranges, and river systems. The color of the earth may vary from blue-green to reddish brown. The fast motion of the capsule may limit the objects that can be observed.
