Inquiry Regarding Heirship Payments for Choctaw and Chickasaw Tribes, 1949-06-28
Item — Box: 6, Folder: 77
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_6_77_0006
Mrs. Effie John inquired about payments to heirs of deceased members of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Tribes for coal and asphalt lands sold to the government. The proof of heirship notices will be sent out by the Superintendent of the Five Civilized Tribes Agency in Muskogee, Oklahoma after living enrolled members are paid. Payments to living enrolled members will begin in July. Each deceased member's share will be divided equally among legal heirs, and the amount each will receive will be determined by the Agency in Muskogee. Mrs. John will receive her per capita payment before receiving her application for heirship payment. Congressman Carl Albert provided this information in response to Mrs. John's inquiry.
