Slow Progress: Payments for Choctaws and Chickasaws, 1949-07-02

 Item — Box: 6, Folder: 77
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_6_77_0014
Mrs. Celia Kaluzniak wrote a letter to Carl Albert, a congressman, inquiring about the delayed payments to the Choctaws and Chickasaws for coal and asphalt lands they sold to the government. Albert responded, stating that he had pushed for the payments to be made in July and that they would amount to about $350. He expressed frustration with the slow progress of the Indian Service and assured Mrs. Kaluzniak that the payments would be made soon. Mrs. Kaluzniak had also received requests from other Indians in Atoka and Push counties about their payments and asked for clarification on the situation.
