Payment Process for Chickasaw and Choctaw Land Sale, 1949-06-30

 Item — Box: 6, Folder: 77
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_6_77_0021
The letter is a response to a query about payment to the Chickasaws and Choctaws for the sale of their coal and asphalt lands to the government. The Indian Office advises that enrolled members do not need to fill out any forms, as their names on the rolls will be proof of their entitlement. Payment will be made on a lump sum basis and checks will be sent out by the Superintendent of the Five Civilized Tribes Agency in Muskogee, Oklahoma. It is important for members to ensure the Agency has their current mailing address. After living enrolled members are paid, proof of heirship notices will be sent to heirs of deceased members to determine legal heirs and the amount they will receive. The letter is signed by Carl Albert, M.C. from the 3rd District of Oklahoma.
