Update on Payment for Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians' Coal Land, 1949-07-05

 Item — Box: 6, Folder: 78
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_6_78_0007
Mr. Hampton is inquiring about the payment to Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians for coal land sold to the government. He was initially advised that payment would be made in late July, but now it seems it will be delayed. The Indian Office will first pay living enrolled members and then send proof of heirship notices to heirs of deceased members. The notices are to be completed and returned to the Agency in Muskogee. Mr. Hampton is seeking clarification on the payment timeline and the cost of proving heirship. Congressman Albert responds, providing information on the payment process and offering further assistance.
