Choc-Chic Payment Concerns: A Letter from Carl Albert, M.C., 1949-07-05

 Item — Box: 6, Folder: 78
Identifier: CAC_CC_001_4_6_78_0008
Mrs. Lizzie Aikman wrote to Carl Albert, M.C. regarding the delayed payment to the Choctaws and Chickasaws for the sale of their coal lands to the government. Carl Albert explained that Congress has appropriated the money for payment, and the Indian Office is working on regulations to pay living enrolled members first. He assured Mrs. Aikman that if she is a living enrolled member, she will receive her payment soon. Mrs. Aikman expressed concern about the delay in payment as many Choctaw families are in need.
