John Baker is writing to Senator Kerr asking for a loan of $46400 to pay off a debt on a pick-up truck. He explains that he had planned to pay off the debt with crop earnings, but due to a drought, he was unable to make a profit. He offers to pay back the loan by selling the pick-up to his son-in-law and his son, who have promised to buy it once they return from military service. Baker emphasizes that the pick-up is his only transportation and asks for a quick response from Senator Kerr.
