Identifier: CAC_CC_31_10_17_7_0049
Robert G. Baker wrote a letter to Senator Kerr addressing false statements made by a Washington correspondent about Senator Lyndon Johnson's involvement in the defeat of the Smith States Rights bill. Baker refuted the claims and explained Johnson's actions in preventing a filibuster and supporting the Supreme Court's decisions on racial segregation. The article in the Columbia State and Record also supported Johnson's role in the legislative process.
