The Legislative History of the Atomic Bomb Development, 1944-06-10

 Item — Box: 67, Folder: 19
Identifier: CAC_CC_053_3_67_19_0001
Senator Elmer Thomas is requesting information from Major General Leslie R. Groves regarding the legislative history of the development of the atomic bomb. He mentions that Secretary of War Stimson and scientists appeared before a select group of Senators to outline the developments and request funds for the project. Thomas is compiling information for a legislative history document to be placed in the Congressional Library. He assures that only information related to the legislative history, and not the nature of the bomb itself, is being sought. Thomas also mentions the need to address questions about how such a large sum of money could be used for the project without the knowledge of Congress. He requests Groves to provide a statement for inclusion in the data being assembled.
