Assistance for Education: A Case Study of Mrs. Fayetta Charlie McKnight, 1970-01-01 - 1970-12-31

 Item — Box: 197, Folder: 2
Identifier: CAC_CC_026_1_197_2_012
Senator Fred Harris received a letter from Mrs. Fayetta Charlie McKnight requesting additional financial aid from the Bureau of Indian Affairs to continue her education at the University of Oklahoma. The Bureau had previously provided financial assistance to Mrs. McKnight, but recently reduced it to cover tuition payments only, leaving her with a budget deficit. Senator Harris contacted the Bureau on her behalf, and the Bureau indicated they would reevaluate her financial needs and potentially increase their assistance. Mrs. McKnight was awarded a scholarship from the Bureau to cover tuition, mandatory fees, and other expenses for the 1970-71 school year. Senator Harris and the Bureau were working to address Mrs. McKnight's financial needs to ensure she could continue her education.
