Mrs. Florence Chavez wrote a letter to Senator Fred R. Harris expressing concerns about the conditions for Indian school children in her community. Senator Harris replied, enclosing a response from the Bureau of Indian Affairs addressing the issues raised by Mrs. Chavez. The Bureau provided information about a recent incident at Bernalillo High School, the issuance of school supplies to Indian students, and the adequacy of medical care for Indian people. Senator Harris assured Mrs. Chavez that he would follow up on the Bureau's progress in addressing the problems.
