Senator Fred Harris has been corresponding with Mrs. Norma Ruth Harvey regarding the treatment of Indian students at the public school in Shiprock, New Mexico. The Department of the Interior has provided information on the grievances of the students, which has led to a lawsuit pending in Federal Court. Mrs. Harvey has raised concerns about discrimination against Navajo students at the school, including instances of harassment and abuse by white teachers. She is seeking assistance in filing a formal complaint against the school authorities.
