Misuse of Federal Funds: Neglect of Indian Children's Education, 1971-01 - 1971-12-31

 File — Box: 235, Folder: 15
Identifier: CAC_CC_026_1_235_15_025
A study by the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund and Harvard's Center for Law and Education found that federal funds intended for deprived Indian children were being misused by local officials. The funds were used to keep down school taxes and purchase luxury equipment for white pupils, leading to a high dropout rate among Indian students. The study also uncovered instances of funds being diverted, transportation issues, and mistreatment of Indian children by school officials.
