Mr. Charles A. Tayrien is seeking government funds to help perpetuate the Osage Indian language and customs. He has been teaching a class on the Osage language with the help of Mrs. Hazel Harper, but they need more support to continue. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has awarded a contract to the University of Oklahoma for community development and adult education programs, and there are plans to establish more classes to preserve the Osage language and culture. The matter is contingent upon securing enough participants and funding. Senator Fred R. Harris has inquired on behalf of Mr. Tayrien, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs is looking into the matter.
